Can a baxi back boiler fire be removed and the boiler still work?
Q. I am just wondering whether it'd be possible for the hideous fire that is attached to my baxi back boiler to be removed and the boiler still work? I was hoping to be able to stick a modern electric fire and mantel piece against the wall where the ugly fire is at the moment. Failing that, anyone know of anywhere that you can get a half decent looking (more modern!!) replacement fire?

A. No it is illegal and dangerous to run the back boiler in this way. Flueless gas fires 100% efficient? They still require either a large permanent hole in the wall to provide ventilation creating wads of cold air in winter else ducted from wall to floor vent unlike other fires as has to be direct to outside air. They are not designed for continuous use either. They also produce a lot of pollutants other than carbon monoxide that can aggravate asthma.
