Color...??
Q. So for my art class we have to present color in a creative way and show what it symbolizes. I think that color is symbolic to truth so I have to realate the two together in a creative way. Do you have any ideas how I can show a class the truth within color?

What color should I paint my bedroom?
Q. I want something muted and calming. So any cool color with some grey in it or any neutral color would be nice. If you've painted a room in your house a color that might tickle my fancy, can you tell me the name of it and what brand you used? I'm thinking of some kind of blue or grey color. Maybe a light almond or wheat? Don't worry about bedding and curtains because I'll be working with the paint color to find something nice.

A. I used Glidden's "Dapper Tan" from The Home Depot.

What color of blinds I should buy if I have brown color all my doors and windows color inside my house?
Q. I just brought a house and all the windows and the doors are brown color. What color I have to buy for blinds to match? Especially I might have later new curtains for teh windows too?
Asked by nat69 - Mon Apr 21 17:26:08 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would definitely stay neutral. And by that I mean off white. Most people don't like bright white. It really doesn't matter what color your doors or window trim is. In fact most people do have natural colored wood doors with wood trim. You'll find them at any discount store i.e. Target, Walmart, Shopko, Menard's etc. Happy decorating!

What color to paint a living room with honey colored wood floors?
Q. What color should a living room with honey colored wood floors be painted? The room feels skinny and long right now at about 11' 17', if that makes a difference. There's not specific furniture colors to correspond with, but we are planning on selling or renting out the house soon, so nothing too drastic.

A. choose a color that won't take away from the beauty of the floor but compliment it Honey can be tricky with its orange undertones so stay away from yellows ,oranges, reds, beige's and taupe's .Best for resale would be a light grey based sage or light grey based blue.I generally use Benjamin Moore paints they're more true to color than others i've used check out benjaminmoore.com for ideas

What color to paint interior of a rental home with brown carpeting?

A. I understand. Here are just a few suggestions. I used to do this stuff years ago, and this might give you some ideas of how to approach decorating that you might not have thought about before. You can go to any major paint store and get sample of various shades of off-whites and creams. Take a few and see how they fit in with your decor and furniture. (Don't rely on the names of the paints or shades--different manufacturers have different names for exactly the same shade of paint ! ) Then, consider your lighting. To get the exact shade of paint that is right, you should look at the paint samples in the room you intend to paint, and with natural sunlight from windows at various times of the morning, day and afternoon. Are you in a room… [cont.]

Q. I've been making some wallpapers lately and I wanted to make one with palm trees on it but the thing is the only way I know how to use a brush is by clicking a color and painting it that color. But I wanted to know how to make it look like a real palm tree. I wanted to color the leaves green and the trunk of the palm tree but I dont know how. A. Hi, If you have a brush with the whole tree on it, pick any color, put it on your canvas, create a new layer on top of your tree clip it with the layer underneath ( hold down the alt key and put the mouse between the two layers you will two circles overlapping) set the blending mode to color brush again but this time a round one pick green for the leaves and paint the leaves pick another color and paint the rest, ctrl, atl, shift E, will merge all the layers onto one on top of the others one, and you can start adding some effects style like drop shadow, bevel and emboss and so on.

What color throw pillows should I use with a hunter green couch?
Q. I have a hunter green couch/recliner and I am planning on color washing the walls. The color will be a goldish yellow. What color throw pillows should I use? I am thinking I would like to have orange, yellow, green, reds and browns but is that too much? I have already purchased new green curtains that match the couch and a bamboo colored large vase. I need help please!!!
Asked by rozie06 - Tue Apr 7 09:50:39 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The colors you listed could be found in a patterned pillow, and then pick one color accent to be the third color of the room as a solid pillow to go with it, and carried out here and there throughout the room. Take a look at these patterned pillows to give you a better idea: As a third accent to the golden yellow and hunter green, I'd add a burnt orange or deep red. Then you'd have a tertiary scheme.

What color/style rug for small room with mustard colored walls and black contemporary furniture?
Q. I have a small room with mustard colored walls and black contemporary furniture. I am using this room as a closet/dressing room. My style tends towards Ikea - Swedish modern/warm contemporary. I don't have a huge budget either. I think a very light color will pop too much against the black furniture and a dark color makes the room look tiny. Also, I am trying to soften the look of the room which, along with the furniture, is very angular. Want it to look softer and more feminine, but not necessarily girly. Any ideas?

A. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours: I think "svelte sage" (# 6164) might be a great choice for the wall color with coffee-colored countertops. You can take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website: You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like

What do color-blind people see in place of colors which look alike to them?
Q. I am green-and-brown color-blind. When people ask me what I see in place of green and brown, I don't know what to tell them. People with normal color vision can't describe the colors they see and I can't describe the colors I see. So I don't know whether I see both colors as green, both colors as brown, or both colors as a color which is unknown to people of normal color vision. Has science come up with an answer for this?

A. I LOVE your question! Both my brother and father were green - brown color blind. But I have a son that has a variation including red. Until I worried so badly about my little boy being "vision impaired" the question didn't come much to mind! A not-so-honest doctor diagnosed my son as TOTALLY color blind at age THREE. That was a blow to me to say the least. But I took him to a specialist that said he was "too young" to be even tested correctly. He did some tests and DID say he had some problem with "red." I don't think he was ever tested again. WHY? Because I decided that making an "issue" of it was "not fair to him." A. what *can't* you use? those colors are pretty neutral, so just about anything will match. Blue & brown and pink & brown are teh hott color combos right now, so go with blue or pink if you want a modern look. Such as: green & brown looks very natural & can also be very stunning: reds & oranges will give you that comfortable coffee shop feel.

Q. I have been placing and live tracing my cartoon sketches in illustrator. It is super easy to color the blank areas using the paint bucket, but I can't figure out how to color the original black sketch with the colors that it touches (like part of the outline the hair color, part of the outline the skin color, part of the outline the shirt color, etc) Any suggestions?

A. You would have to break up the outline into constituent parts so you have one for hair colour, one for shirt etc. To do that you first expand your live trace, duplicate it on another layer and remove the parts that are not to be coloured, you will then need to join the paths that are left (otherwise it will fill from the two open points), then apply the colour you want and move on to the next section.

What hair color looks good on light skin?
Q. I have naturally dirty blond hair and I want to dye it blonder ... my skin is very fair, I guess sort of neutral colors, and whenever I've tried putting my hair goldy, it makes my skin look flushed and I look washed out, too pale colors can also make me look gray. but sometimes ditto for ash colors. Oh and I have blue eyes I dunno if that helps at all, and thick wavy hair. I've been thinking about Reese Witherspoon's color, too yellow maybe?
